Pickens Presbyterians love and serve
PICKENS — The mission of Pickens Presbyterian Church is to serve God, each other and the community. The church welcomes everyone.
The congregation works to put the teachings of Jesus into practice in everyday living. Living in the busy and chaotic world can be a challenge. The church wants people to know that God’s word offers a blueprint for living with peace and purpose.
The congregation is intergenerational and Sunday services include Sunday school and worship. There is a Centering Prayer Group, Sunday Night Prayer Group, and a Caregivers Ministry. Wonderful Wednesdays offer dinner, fellowship and classes and there is also an active youth group.
Pickens Presbyterian also operates the Child Development Center, a childcare facility with state certified staff and the only facility in the county able to care for children with disabilities.
The church, along with other churches in the community, provides worship services during Lent and Thanksgiving. The church assists in providing fuel for families in cold weather and also supports the Winter Warmth Program, which collects and distributes warm clothing to those who need it. In addition, the church is currently working with other churches to build a Habitat for Humanity home, a program to help families own their own homes.
Pickens Presbyterian maintains an emergency food pantry as well as the Jane B. Morris fund which assists eligible people with utility bills.
The church also contributes to local helping agencies including Meals on Wheels, MARYS House, Prevent Child Abuse, and United Christian Ministries, Feed a Hungry Child, The Samaritan Health Clinic, and Gleaning House Ministries.
Pickens Presbyterian supports God’s work in Ghana and Peru, and Samaritan’s Purse through Operation Shoebox which provides hygiene items and other items for children.
The summer schedule is Sunday school at 9 a.m. and worship service at 10 a.m.
