Police: Woman took $75K from employer

CENTRAL — A Central woman was arrested last week after a six-month investigation into more than $75,000 missing from a local business.

Rebecca Leigh Martin, 40, of 125 McAlister St., was charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent with a value more than $10,000 in the case.

According to Pickens County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy Creed Hashe, a representative from Kennemore Enterprises in Central reported to authorities last December that company officials had discovered the loss of several thousand dollars that they believed had been diverted to pay for personal expenses by an employee.

An investigation into the company’s financial records from 2012-14 allegedly revealed the company had a loss of more than $75,000 from the use of debit cards and company checks to pay for numerous unauthorized charges including payment of personal property taxes and cash deposits into a personal account, Hashe said.

Martin, who had worked at Kennemore Enterprises since 2008, turned herself in at the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office on July 8, Hashe said.

She was later released on a $10,000 bond.
