SC Old Time Fiddlers Convention planned Saturday at Hagood Mill
South Carolina State Fiddling Championship will be decided
PICKENS — As autumn approaches and the leaves turn their brilliant colors, it signals the time for fiddle music in the mountains.
This Friday and Saturday, old-time music will fill the hills and hollers around Hagood Mill as the historic site hosts the S.C. Old Time Fiddlers Convention. Some of the best musicians from around the Southeast will gather to compete in a variety of categories, with the top fiddler being named South Carolina’s state fiddling champion. The traditional contest goes back to the 1920s, when Clemson University opened the doors of stately Tillman Hall to the local musicians of the nearby South Carolina mountains for a music competition.
